Please read all of the rules for this year.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
This year’s event will be July 11th and 12th out of Mayport boat ramp. Safe light is 6:10AM. Both mornings boats will line up in order and proceed to the dock at Morning Star Marina (right next to Mayport boat ramp) where you will get your tackle bag. On Saturday, the 1st place team will go first and we will finish up with the 30th place team. On Sunday morning we will reverse that having the 30th place team first and finishing up with the 1st place team. Please look at the line up so you know your place in line. This is especially important on Saturday so you get the correct bag with your shirts inside. You must be back in the staging .area directly in front of Mayport Boat ramp and Morning Star Marina by 3:00 PM or you will be disqualified. Morning Star Marina has requested that we not tie up at their docks. Courtesy measurements will be done until 3:15 and then the official weigh in will begin. The weigh in will be in the Gazebo area at Morning Star Marina.
Each team member is allowed 2 rods and 2 reels. The line on the reels will be provided by Strike Zone. You can have the reels spooled starting Monday July the 6th. Strike Zone will spool on no more than 150 yards per reel. If you use the reels (before the tournament) after Strike Zone spools them and something happens to the line you will not be able to have them spooled again. You cannot change or alter how the line is spooled on the reels other than changing the tension on the line.
When you come to the ramp each morning bring only your two rods and reels with the line Strike Zone has provided. Do not bring any other tackle as everything you can fish with will be provided. There will be a boat check each morning to verify that every team has complied with this rule. When you go home Saturday remove all the tackle provided for that day as you will be given new tackle on Sunday morning to fish with.
TOURNAMENT SPECIFICS:
We will be fishing for a SLAM both days. You will be allowed to weigh in only one of each species (red, trout and flounder) each day. All FWC rules apply. This will work like all of our tournaments except this is a two day event. We will combine the number of fish caught and the weight for both days to determine the winners. So 6 beats 5, beats 4, etc. and then the weight. There is a 1 pound penalty for all dead fish weighed in. Here’s the kicker. You have to take a picture of the fish you are weighing in out on the water. You don’t have to take it immediately, but you do need to take it before you return to the ramp. We ask that you think about the picture for a minute before you take it and try to take a quality shot with a nice background (not necessarily where you fish). The companies that provide tackle for our challenges have been asking for pictures for the last few years but have not really gotten any so we are making sure this year they get them. You don’t have to be in the picture. Please do not just throw the fish in the bottom of the boat and take its picture. The sponsors want pictures they can put in their brochures’, etc. Every team will need to have a digital camera or phone that takes pictures so you can upload them and send them to barbef@aol.com by midnight Tuesday July 14th. If you can’t email them and you took them with your phone you can text them to 904-718-1390 or 904-635-4817. DO NOT SEND ANY TEXT PICTURES UNTIL THE TOURNAMENT IS OVER. When you send the pictures either by email or text you need to give us your team number and or names as well as information on the pictures sent (first pic is day one red; second pic is day two trout, 10th pic is for photo contest, etc.).
AWARDS:
We will pay out three places for the winning bags of fish ($250.00, $150.00, $100.00) with accompanying pictures. The first place champions will also receive a plaque. If you finish in one of the top three positions but do not provide pictures you will forfeit your win and it will go to the next place team.
We will also pay out three places for the best pictures taken ($250.00, $150.00, $100.00). So even though you may have a bad tournament you still may be in the money. You can win in both categories (fish bag and best picture). Strike Zone will also be adding to the prizes for the pictures. Be sure to take pictures of all fish caught as there will probably also be a mystery fish category.
After we verify pictures for the winning bags, all the pictures will be handed over to Strike Zone and they will determine the photo winners.
ALL AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN OUT AT THE BANQUET.
I think I have covered everything here but if you have a question please contact me before tournament day. barbef@aol.com
Last but not least good luck to everyone, please have fun and remember above all-SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY!!!
